My take-away for today was Phil Japikse's talk: Introducing Agile into the Enterprise.
His session started with the center principles of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development:
Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contractual negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan
That is, while there is value in the items on the right,
we value the items on the left more
This talk nicely illustrated the no-nonsense approach that I strive for every day. Processes, planning and methodology have their benefits; they can never replace plain common sense. Implement simple processes with the purpose of being more productive. Don't expect them to do the thinking for you.
